The world’s longest-running and largest programming competition, widely known as the “Olympics of Programming,” the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), held the 50th ICPC Asia-Pacific Championship from March 7 to March 9, 2026, at the Taoyuan Convention and Exhibition Center. The event was co-hosted by National Taipei University of Business and the Taiwan Association for Programming Contest and Certification, bringing together 70 elite teams from 41 leading universities across 11 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Teams competed for 12 to 18 qualification spots to advance to the ICPC World Finals and contend for the highest honor in competitive programming.

The ICPC is renowned for its challenging algorithmic problems and real-time judging system. Each team consists of three contestants sharing a single computer, working collaboratively to solve multiple complex problems within five hours. The contest tests not only programming ability but also teamwork, logical reasoning, and the capacity to perform under intense pressure. All participating teams qualified through regional competitions and represent the highest level of computer science talent in the Asia-Pacific region.

The opening ceremony was held on March 7, with Chang San-Cheng, Mayor of Taoyuan, attending in person to welcome contestants and international guests from around the world.

Mayor Chang noted that Taoyuan, as Taiwan’s gateway to the world and a major technology hub, was honored to host the 50th Asia-Pacific Championship. He emphasized that international competitions of this scale not only enhance Taiwan’s global visibility but also promote meaningful exchanges in technology education and industrial development. After intense competition, the overall championship title was won by the team from National University of Singapore. Mayor Chang personally presented the award and encouraged all participants, stating that competing on such a high-level international stage is itself a significant achievement. He expressed hope that these young talents will continue pushing technological boundaries and become key drivers of global innovation.

As the host institution, National Taipei University of Business stated that organizing the 50th ICPC Asia-Pacific Championship is of great significance for both the university and Taiwan’s higher education sector. The event serves not only as a competition but also as an important platform for academic exchange among leading universities across the Asia-Pacific region. NTUB emphasized its long-term commitment to digital innovation and information technology talent cultivation, noting that it will continue expanding its international engagement.
